If the future of art means resisting the institution then that would be a sad thing indeed.

More often then not this argument has become a defense mechanism of unacceptable proportions.

And yet students can either step up to the mark offered or loose perspective.

I am saying that part of the 'mark offered' is the support of your contemporaries, which is far more valuable than anything proffered by the previous generation. A groups own critical development and cohesion can be managed from within. And this creates your own vital perspective.

Are you a teacher WB? I ask because you seem to be avoiding the point of discussion.

ha ha ha very good but gladly I am not a teacher.

I dont think I am avoiding the point of the discussion, which is an objective look at opacity in tertiary arts practice. I am just putting forward the idea that transparent teaching practice can do more harm than good.

The old routine of this is what we are learning today and there will be a test later (that makes grades explicit) can be far more stultifying than inspiring.

The seemingly arbitrary nature of the Ilam marking system is most likely a way of justifying a walloping great salary. I think it best to treat all teaching systems as a parallel universe, if you dare enter make certain of your escape porrtal and leave with as much treasure as possible.

As for the students who 'fail' under this dense totalitarian regime they should perhaps post themselves at next years university open day as an alternative information booth as a warning to future students, then sign up for a law degree, qualify, then become an MP, then cut the Universities' funding.

I think the point here is more about over compensation, then over consumption. There is no crossover because over compensation is always a mistake.

If I was the school, I would divide the salaries and employ more teachers.
