who here has actually been to see the work physically? and what were the rest of the entries like? was it a strong selection?

If the artist hasn't seen the work why should we? and as was judged the best thing in the show, what can the rest be like? anachronistic craftwork apparently.

Lets be clear about this, I love that pile of trash on every level. BTW am I allowed to speak yet Flake?

If I was up there out of pure curiosity if nothing else I would be compelled to go have a look at what it beat out, was that the point perhaps?

What artist/gallery doesn't want headlines? , huh is it a sign of economic weakening? Sad to play a judge like a puppet

what are you saying Quint, who was played really?

It's not really about wanting headlines, of course everyone wants them, but what purpose do those headlines serve is more the point I'd say.

It's an ironical take against those who believe that art is useless and that so many people hunger for stardom by entering their "trash" into a ridiculous cheap event, it is saying that the whole industry is trash,

the northern hemisphere dudes were just saying art is trash, this is saying striving in art is trash

think "undress for success", now that's cheap, but that is what this cheap industry expects from artists, to sell out and create items of non-art trash

designed to appeal to demographics, but the industry must be struggling, to allow itself to be bitten, to attract attention

Again NAILING the point home, WB, you have a way of driving the point with no hands on the steering wheel, charming...

"Again NAILING the point home, WB, you have a way of driving the point with no hands on the steering wheel, charming... "

indeedy Flake, just being consistent, which you seem unable to achieve even in one sentence given this mixed matyr/builder/driving instructor metaphore.

Actually this whole point about seeing it brings up and in teresting aspect.....its not visual art. Its CONCEPTUAL ART......how can u judge and compare an image to an idea. How can u compare visual art with conceptual art. Its like comparing swimming with rollerblading....both sports but different rules apply.

Also the lack of much NZ contemporary art that actually deals in any direct and simple way with the campaign of terror directed at the middle-east by the US and its european cronies and Israel is breathtaking......it speaks of an impoverished political imagination more concerned with arcane academic matters.

"it speaks of an impoverished political imagination more concerned with arcane academic matters"

Actually it speaks of an impoverished artistic imagination more concerned with arcane academic matters.

And, as much as certain people here like to criticize the curators of the establishment, and the establishment itself, given half a chance they would all suckle at the power nipple right along with them! You people don't want change, you just want the nipples pointed more at your thoughts than those they are currently directed to! You surround a pile of bullshit with more and more academic-literary bullshit in the hope you can confuse enough people to validate a lack of imagination, but all you end up with is more bullshit! If you want change make change, it's simple but oh so hard, its much easier to verbally validate the same than it is to visually excite with the new.

Iv,e just heard on the radio now that our SAS troops are now in Afganistan...so, in our name as citizens of Aotearoa they will no doubt kill the odd goatherder defending his flock....or more accurately call in a bomb strike by the americans to do the same.
All this in our name.
One would hope that murder carried out by the State would exercise the imaginations of the artists of that State more than any esoteric issues concerning curatorial jurisdiction.....otherwise "critical thinking" is at the expense of the subjugated and powerless and those denied a voice.

Vincent van Gough walks into a bar, and the bartender offers him a drink...
No thank's, said Vincent, I've got one here.

all valid points Mathew, but if you want to make a difference there, then a career in politics awaits you. art is not and never will be the savior of society, or human decency.

How do you feel being a murderer.. MR, you cool bout that.. you walk with a head held high, HOw's that warm kiwi feeling...

Flake If I'm a murderer simply by being a New Zealander then so are you, so how's your warm kiwi feeling? Exactly how did I validate the SAS being in Afghanistan and the US-Israel oppression of Palestine by suggesting Mathew should get into politics?

If art was going to save the world wouldn’t we be saved already?
