Part of the HONK NYC Festival, the event begins in Brooklyn at the NY Transit Museum and makes its Manhattan stop at Anita's Way. HONK Pop-Up offers audiences in various locations across NYC the chance to encounter unexpected marching band performances, instantaneous spectacle activations and spontaneous dance parties.
Damas de Ferro, from Rio de Janiero, Brazil, performs at Anita's Way, presented by HONK NYC. Damas de Ferro (“Iron Ladies” in Portuguese) was formed in 2013 out of the desire to create a project that showcased street art and music made by women playing brass and percussion instruments. The band consists of 14 female musicians who play a repertoire of contemporary music in a variety of performance styles, from stage shows to the streets. The group believes strongly in empowering, and all the musicians share a common goal of highlighting and supporting all forms of feminist protest.

About the Artists
HONK NYC is an annual celebration that brings the tradition of global street band music and spectacle to people everywhere. The organization’s flagship festival happens the second week of October, in parks, at clubs, in schools, and out in the streets across New York City. The HONK NYC Festival introduces audiences to the creative community of street artists working today. Grassroots musicians and performers play alongside world-renowned brass and percussion masters, united in a shared passion for the genre.
