Added by Hana National Animal Advocacy organisation SAFE is thrilled to announce this year’s fifth annual Charity Art Auction, on 1st of November at the SOCA gallery in Auckland, under the direction of the Art+Object auctioneers (TV1’s Auction House).

A Bid For Freedom will be hosted by Jaquie Brown (TV personality). It will feature over 40 works by some of New Zealand’s most renowned artists and even artist musicians Ruban Nielson from the Mint Chicks and Jools Topp of the Topp Twins.

The works come from a diverse range of high profile and emerging artists who include Karl Maughan, Fiona Pardington, Mike Petre, Jim Speers, Angela Singer, Peter Gibson-Smith, Andrew McLeod and Peter Madden. Footrot Flat’s kiwi icon Murray Ball, has given an original artwork, along with fellow cartoonists BroTown and “Hicksville’s” Dylan Horricks. The celebrated artist Ted Dutch, who sadly died earlier this year, has also donated a piece to SAFE’s auction which is expected to be highly sought after.

“We are delighted to have the support of so many generous New Zealand artists,” says event organiser Amanda Sorrenson. “We have works from painters, jewellers, ceramicists, photographers, designers, cartoon-artists, musicians, print makers and sculptors! All of them moved by the desire to see an end to the cruelty endured by factory-farmed animals here in NZ.”

“We have an artwork from Ruban Neilson; art school graduate and bass player from the Mint Chick’s, he is also popular for the band’s creative design work and we have a quirky drawing from long-time supporter Jools Topp. Scuptor Angela Singer, most well known for her modified vintage-taxidermy, does not disappoint this year, with another of her fantastic bejewelled animal works.”

All proceeds from this event will contribute to SAFE’s LovePigs Campaign and Battery Hen Campaign, which are aimed at highlighting the plight of factory farmed pigs and chickens in NZ.

The auction will be opened by Auckland Mayor John Banks is a long-standing supporter of SAFE, and of this 2008 auction in particular.
