Tony Rumball
at Zimmerman Art Gallery
1 Apr 2016 - 30 Apr 2016

Added by Zimmerman

New Plymouth artist Tony Rumball has been painting for more than 25 years.

Rumball’s paintings reflect the artist’s interest in our everyday circumstances, imagined snapshots of people going about their daily lives.

Some are playful – for example, the “Old Cyclist” jauntily perched side-saddle on his bike.

Other characters are more serene, such as Rumball’s languid diver, floating in a jewel-hued sea.

More contemplative works are also part of the mix; among them “Pomp and Circumstance” - a painting that reflects on the “rather weird space” the artist found in Europe where a small beggar with her large robust dog waits by a ceremonial guard.

A regular exhibitor in both Taranaki and Palmerston North, Rumball has held a number of solo shows at Zimmerman Art Gallery, and is also a regular exhibitor at the Percy Thomson Gallery in Stratford.

In 2014, Rumball’s works were part of an exhibition of works shown at Galerie 59 Rivoli in Paris.

Rumball is also one of the artists featured in the book Emerging Collectable Taranaki Painters 2010-2011, and in the publication Virtual Tart @ Home: Art & Artists from Taranaki, New Zealand.

The exhibition of Tony Rumball’s works at Zimmerman Art Gallery runs until 30 April 2016.
